Russian Drone Attack Sparks Power Outages in Ukraine’s Odesa

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported early Sunday that a large-scale Russian drone strike overnight triggered widespread power outages in the southern city of Odesa.

“Currently, more than 29,000 subscribers are without electricity. Restoration work has already begun. Critical infrastructure is powered by generators,” Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper stated on Telegram after the attack.

Describing the assault as “massive,” Kiper added that the city of Chornomorsk, located about 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) south of Odesa, along with surrounding areas, bore the brunt of the damage.

Energy facilities, private residences, and administrative buildings all suffered hits from the attack, Kiper confirmed.

“Fires broke out in some places, which were quickly extinguished by our rescuers. One person is known to have been injured,” he added.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported shooting down 126 of 142 drones launched by Russia during the night.

In contrast, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed their forces struck port infrastructure "used in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system made in Norway that covers it," according to a statement.
