New Lake Capoey bridge improves access for residents, businesses
A newly constructed bridge at Lake Capoey, Region Two, is making travel easier for residents and visitors, while supporting businesses in the indigenous community.
Resident Melrose Henry said the bridge is improving daily life by helping children reach secondary school and making it easier to transport supplies and take sick residents to hospital.
“It’s not just a bridge for us, it means development for us, it means development for our people,” she said.
Henry said better access is particularly important for Lake Capoey’s tourism-based economy, allowing people to travel more easily into and out of the village.
She added that businesses are benefiting from the improved connection, which also makes it easier to bring groceries, building materials, and other products into the village.
“Businesses are thriving, people’s personal lives are being made better, and this is what we are grateful for as a people, as an indigenous community,” Henry described.
Beyond its practical benefits, the bridge has become a source of pride for residents.
Henry said, “We are forever thankful and grateful for this bridge.”
